Projects Lire Senior Secondary School
Lire Comprehensive Vocational College

Lire Comprehensive College

Project Status - Complete
SSHADA's participaton in this project is complete.  For a period of time, the SSHADA organization provided funds for improvement of the building, teaching materials and teacher salaries.  An additional building (75% complete) which was originally part of the Lire Comprehensive College has been turned over to Lire Secondary School.  Support for Lire Secondary School is now provided by the community and in future possibly by the state.

Lire Senior Secondary School - Reference

This project is in response to a community request for provision of education services to the sons and daughters of Lire and Ngepo Payams.  Young people in this area must walk 15-20 miles, and must cross a number of streams in order to attend a secondary school.  When the streams become flooded during the rainy season, the students are not able to cross without endangering their lives.  As a result attendance is very poor during the rainy season.  A secondary school located in the Lire or Ngapo Payam would greatly increase the chances of uninterrupted access to classes in this area.

The local community is willing to support the project by providing building material such as timber, sand, stones and bricks for the renovation of a four classroom school building.

 Project Objectives

1.     Extension of the Lire secondary school with construction of a new four (4) classroom block.

2.     To bring secondary education within the reach of the children of the catchment  primary school of Lire and Ngepo Payams.

3.     Discourage early and forced marriages by making available secondary education to the boys and girls of the area.

Strategy

Wherever possible the community will be mobilized to achieve project goals.  The ongoing operation of the school will be supported by payment of school fees by parents of students.

Stakeholders

The key stakeholders are the students, the community, the local leaders, the Payam education office, the county education office, the school administration, the teaching staff and the donor community at large.

Monitoring and evaluation

The project shall be implemented by two committees that will be elected to oversee the mobilization, organization and management of the project.  These are the School Management Committee and the Development Committee.  Apart from these two committees the educational inspector for the area shall monitor and supervise school programs to ensure that they conform with the national education policy.

Reporting

Reports shall be submitted after the end of every phase of construction is complete and at the end of every school term.
