Lire Comprehensive College

Project Status - Ongoing
Project funding, through CIDA and the Government of Saskatchewan will end in 2012.  At that time the buildings and administration of the college were to be turned over to the local authorities.  However, it seems that the challenges facing the newly independent Republic of South Sudan are great and the state will not be in a position to support the college financially at that time. Financial support for, the upkeep of the college, teaching materials and teacher salaries will have to come from outside sources at least for the near future.

The SSHADA organization is requesting your donation to enable us to continue to support the positive benefits of this project until the people and government of South Sudan are able to fund it themselves.

Thank you for your support of our mission in the Republic of South Sudan.

Lire Comprehensive Vocational College

In 2006 SSHADA started fund raising for Lire Comprehensive Vocational College with a 'Brick Campaign'. The project received a huge boost in 2009 when SSHADA in partnership with “CHAKAM School of the Bible” secured Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funding for the project. The Government of Saskatchewan also contributed funds. Since then the buildings required for the project have been completed and much of the equipment for the vocational college is in place. Building construction was completed in December 2010; the college was opened in April, 2011 and inaugurated on August 23rd, 2011.

The college currently has 40 students enrolled in four one year certificate programs; carpentry/woodworking, sewing/fashion design, building construction and computer technology. The first badge graduation is scheduled for January of 2012. In 2012 the college will introduce two year advanced certificate programs in; carpentry/woodworking, sewing/fashion design and building construction. Enrollment is expected to double as a result of the new two year programs.

Lire Comprehensive Vocational College is providing vocational training for youth in Kajo-keji County empowering them to better meet there needs and responsibilities now and into the future. Graduates of the college will be in a better position to contribute to the local economy and participate in the building of their new nation.
