Projects Lire Comprehensive College
Lire Secondary School SSHADA has been working for the past four years to support the communities of Lire and Ngepo Payams located in Kajo-Keji County, Southern Sudan, in their need to build and maintain a secondary level school. Lire Comprehensive College is a community initiated, self-help project that will expand the modest facility that has already been built. In addition to ordinary level high school subjects already offered, advanced level high school subjects and trade skills courses will be available. Some progress has already been made towards the provision of secondary level education. A building at the site of the proposed Lire Comprehensive College has been reconstructed through the work of the community with support from SSHADA and other International organization, a four-classroom school building that opened in 2004 with 55 students. Today there are 260 students in the school including 89 girls and the number are expected to rise as more children return from exile.Building the Comprehensive College creates other needs related to the maintenance and improvement of services, and the creation of opportunities for students and others in the wider community. SSHADA believe that there is no better investment in the future of a country than in the education of its people.

Project Location: Lire comprehensive college is located in Lire Payam; Lire Payam is one of the five Kajo-Keji County political administrative areas headed by Payam Administrator (PA) in Southern Sudan. It is the largest Payam located North – West of Kajo-Keji County, about 10 miles from Kajo-Keji town. This county is bordered from its southern hemisphere by Moyo district in Northern Uganda and from the other direction of its compass in South Sudan, is Yei County in the west and Juba counties in the North. While Nimule, a counter part of its kind borders it from the east. SSHADA 'S objective for 2008/09 is to provide funds for the construction of one of the three building blocks that will be required for the Lire Comprehensive College and provide teacher remuneration, furniture, equipment and teaching aids. The estimated cost of constructing one building block is $45,000 CDN.Your donation of one or many bricks at $5 each will go a long way to helping us complete this important work. For more information about this project, please contact Senos Timon at  senos@sshada.org or by Tel: (306) 978-0798. To make a donation, visit the donation page for donation options. LIRE COMPREHENSIVE COLLEGE BLOCK CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS SSSHADA is proceeding well with phase one of the project; “Mobilization of resources and construction”. Due to funding received from SCIC’s Community Link Fund, SSHADA fundraising efforts and the contribution from the local community members in Lire Payam, Kajo-Keji County, we are able to reach half of the estimated budget for the construction. We are very pleased to inform SCIC and other SSHADA supporters that the walls of a five classrooms building structure have been successfully completed and are ready for roofing. The construction for the first Lire Comprehensive College building is scheduled for completion in mid 2009 and will start to offer vocational courses soon after. The Board of Governors of Lire Secondary School in Kajo-Keji County and the community in large, are very pleased with the funding from SCIC and SSHADA supporters. They express their gratitude and look forward to completion of the new building block since they are in great need of the additional space. This year many students could not be accommodated and large numbers of students are line up for admission to Lire Compressive College. The project has had overwhelming support from the Board of Governors of Lire Secondary School, community leaders and the community at large in Lire Payam, Kajo-Keji County and the ministry of education. The above mentioned groups have participated in different ways, for example, keeping labour costs down by contribution of food items for the construction workers to reduce the cost of breakfast and lunch. The ministry of education has indicated their support for the teachers required for the college and will provide whatever other help they can. This is a positive sign for the college project. On the other hand UNHCR has stepped forward to provide other service such as the construction of the girl’s dormitory and the fenced of the building. SSHADA is continuing with its efforts to raise the funds necessary for completion of the project. We count on your genoristy and your donation is very much appreciated to complete the Lire Comprehensive College project and make possible a brighter future for young people in Southern Sudan.
